The 10 Best Places to Visit in Tiong Bahru, Singapore Follow my blog with Bloglovin My Top 10 Favorite Places in Tiong Bahru, Singapore If you live in Singapore or are planning on visiting Singapore, then Tiong Bahru is a must see. Not only is it charming, with its colorful street murals and unique architectural heritage, but there is lot's to see and do and a wonderful sense of community. But, let's be honest...the real reason that I spend so much of my time in Tiong Bahru is for the food. Which is why I wanted to share a list of my top 10 favorite places in Tiong Bahru (most of which, revolve around food). I would love to hear your thoughts so please leave me a comment and let me know what you think. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do! 1. Lao Si Chuan For the best Sichuan food in Singapore! Hot, hot, hot! That's right, sichuan food does tend to be on the spicy side, but it is also so incredibly flavorful. And for those who prefer a milder sichuan selection, the restaurant will dial down the heat if you ask them to. Be sure to try the eggplant with garlic sauce, the diced chicken in spicy sauce, the mashed garlic with cucumber, and the french bean with minced pork! Address: 50 Tiong Bahru Road, Singapore 168733 Website: http://www.laosichuan.com.sg/ 2. TIong Bahru pau & Snack For the most delicous Char Siew and Siew Mai...mmm, go, eat! Looking for a savory breakfast or perhaps just a satisfying snack? I love frequenting Tiong Bahru Pau & Snack in order to get my char siew fix! These steamed buns filled with sweet barbecued pork always leave me wanting more. A Singaporean favorite (and mine too)!Address: 237 Outram Road, Singapore 169041 Website: For more info, check out their Facebook page 3. Tiong Bahru Bakery For the most mouthwatering croissants, baguettes and other French baked goods! There is hardly a week that goes by where I don't visit Tiong Bahru bakery for a coffee and sweet treat. This place is practically an institution in Tiong Bahru and it is always buzzing with people. The pastry counter is filled with so many delicious options that you will be hard-pressed to choose (but hey, who says you have to choose?). Address: 56 Eng Hoon Street, #01-70, Singapore 160056Website: http://www.tiongbahrubakery.com/ 4. Hua Bee For the BEST fish ball soup and mee pok noodles this side of the equator! I absolutely LOVE this cozy little kopitiam (coffee shop) in Tiong Bahru. The noodles (I prefer dry) and fish ball soup paired together with a strong cup of kopi are one of my absolute favorite Asian breakfast's in Singapore. Sitting on the sidewalk on a small plastic stool and chatting to the Aunty who makes sure everything is running smoothly is my favorite way to start my Saturday morning. Hua Bee is only open during the day and by night, it moonlights as one of my favorite yakitori restaurants (Photo by Chen Sands Photography). Address: 78 Moh Guan Terrace, #01-19 Singapore 162078Website: http://www.bincho.com.sg/#/day-about 5. Tiong Bahru Market Delicious hawker food, flowers, veggies, fish and meats all housed under one roof!Sometimes I wonder what I would do without Tiong Bahru market (I spend a lot of time here!). I look forward to my weekly trips to the market so that I can catch up with the owners of my favorite veggie stall (they are always kind enough to answer all of my vegetable questions), watch in fascination as my chicken 'guy' works his butchery magic and stock up on all of my favorite flowers. Address: 50 Tiong Bahru Road, 168733 Singapore Website: http://tiongbahru.market/ 6. Bincho For the best Japanese yakitori and coziest atmosphere! Bincho is one of those places where you walk in, and you are immediately captured by its charm. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is seductive (in a hipster sort of way) and if you like sake and shochu as much as I do, then this is the place for you! Bincho is open for dinner only (because it transforms into my favorite mee pok noodle place by day). Address: 78 Moh Guan Terrace, #01-19 Singapore 162078Website: http://www.bincho.com.sg/#/night-about 7. Bakalaki Greek Taverna For the best mezedes and Greek food in Singapore! Back when I used to live in Astoria in Queens, I ate a LOT of Greek food. So I was so excited when Bakalaki opened its doors because it reminded me of the cozy little neighborhood restaurant where I spent so much of my time. Bakalaki combines two of my favorite things (delicious Greek food and it is located in my favorite neighborhood) so it is pretty hard not to like this place, not to mention that the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I could easily eat the skordalia and kalamari every night of the week!Address: 3 Seng Poh Road, Singapore 168891 Website: https://bakalaki.com/ 8. Merci Marcel For long lunches and coffee with friends! This is the kind of place that you can come and sit for hours together with friends, while enjoying delicious food and wine. In fact, I did just that, and I immediately fell in love with this cozy French bistro. Address: 56 Eng Hoon Street, #01-68, 160056Website: https://mercimarcel.com/about/ PS.Cafe Petit Tiong Bahru Delicious pizza, truffle fries, coffee & wine! This is the kind of place that I want to be trapped inside when it is raining heavily outside so that I am forced to stay and linger just a little bit longer, and perhaps order that pizza I have been craving (together with a nice glass of red wine). Address: No.41 Blk 78. Guan Chuan St, Singapore 160078Website: https://www.pscafe.com/pscafe-petit-at-tiong-bahru/ 10. Books Actually The coolest, coziest bookstore with the best selection of unique books about Singapore! I absolutely love this bookstore! I could easily spend hours in here wandering around reading while I try and decide which book I should buy. Plus, what other bookstore boasts a vending machine full of wrapped books (for a literary surprise) right outside its doors?
